1.  What are your Names

Bo: Muvindu Binoy, Bo Sedkid

Pixie : Ramesh Laktharu, Pixel Morph

2.  What’s the meaning of your name ?

Bo : I found that most people misspell my name Binoy. So as a result of that I came up with this easy-to-spell-name, Bo (Stitching the two main letters of my middle name). And Sedkid is just a supportive random name I came up with.

Pixie : Picasso is one of the best all time influential artists in my personal life. So I wanted to create a slightly simple name which includes my birth name as well. Picasso + el (my common name starts with L) = Pixel. And Morph coz I “morphed”.

3.  Age (If you don’t mind)

Bo : 1989. Let’s see how you are good at numbers.

Pixie : I do not mind. 21.

4.  Occupation

Bo : I don’t belong to the regular working crowd. Neither my work. But yes! Walk around while holding colour palettes and a guitar would be the greatest occupation that anybody could have. If you wonder what I gain as my profit?…well, Its only the rapture. And that rapture could be a snap, song or a movie.

Pixie : I don’t have a real job. I do what I do because of the pure need of mental satisfaction. To make a living out of it is not the no. 1 priority, but there’s a little commercial side also attached to it. Being a cinematographer I appreciate that you would call me as a creativist.

5.  How did it all start for you

Bo : I grew up normally but there were a few scratches n sketches here n there. And for the “sake of freedom of choice” I led myself to be an artist.

Pixie : As an after effect of Dyslexia I pressed myself with more empty walls and crayons. Sometime later it morphed to papers and more colours so that I can actually express myself. After my first attempt of visual graphics, all that casual paper, and colours became much more sophisticated. And that first step led me to a whole new creative complexion.

6.  Your favourite moment as a Creativist?

Bo : Where I get my regular depression and where I out that depression as another creation.

Pixie : Where I get together with my troops and dope with dreams.

7.  Who’s your biggest influence?

Bo :No exact person. But Charles Manson and Kurt Cobain shadow me sometimes.

Pixie : Mostly I am influenced by myself. Self reboot I call.

8.  What was it like working with so many incredibly talented industry members?

Bo : I think I know the most truthful and trustworthy and already talented bunch. Other than that, I don’t care.

9. What type of work do you wish you knew more about?

Bo : Motor Mechanism and Human Malfunctions

Pixie : Human behaviour.

10.  What are you currently obsessed about?

Bo : Film Scores and Anamorphosism

Pixie : Cinematography, Noir films and Matte paintings.

11. What’s your favourite tool and why?

Bo : An acoustic guitar .It’s neither a tool nor an instrument.

Pixie : If you are expecting for a software name or some personal gear, I’m sorry I don’t have any. I just follow my basic instincts and some little brain capacity.

12. Whom have you found the easiest to work with in the field?

Bo : If it is that easy to work with others who are already in the same field…I would rather start an office.

Pixie : As an anti-social person I don’t find anyone that easy to work with. Even there’s a tad bit calamity within my crew as well.

13.  An ideal day for u would be

Bo : A Friday. Bit of Indie rock music and late night coffee sessions.

Pixie : Mostly I don’t experience the “daytime”. I count the dawn as my work time. And I count the morning as my sleep time. Evening?  Never have experienced. And the “Good morning” would be my “Night”.

14.  What/who makes you the happiest?

Bo : Some simple piece of art and my friends.

Pixie : Annoying friends, erotic art and candy.

15.  I’d be remiss if I didn’t ask something about your personal life for all of our female readers.  Is there anyone special in your life right now?

Bo : Romance is a bit of a complexion for me right now. But if this one day, the perfect full moon will rise and I’ll be howling till I turn into a werewolf.

Pixie : I have my own garden with very beautiful flowers. (I dont know whether he used a metaphor here but what ever it is, he seems to be happy with what he has )

16.  What would you like your fans to know about you that they don’t already?

Bo : Most of them ask whether I have an elder brother. And no I have an elder sister. Don’t believe those old look-a-likes

Pixie : David Kassan , the world recognised artist wanted to name his daughter after me. ‘Cause he finds the name pixel, cute ^^

17. Do you care about fashion much?

Bo : Yeah, But not the trendy ones. A vintage metal t shirt, shorts and flip flops would be great!

Pixie : Simplicity is the only thing I’m obsessed with. Fancy Chuck Taylors, I don’t mind.

18.  Your goal in life

We have seen many young artists of different genres ranging from abstract art to romanticism, but Manga art referered as Manga Style  is of the least and yet to be seen and appreciated.

Duval Weerakoone, a young talented artist in his own genre is our subject of this article. He is only 17 years of age with a witty, crazy, and full of life personality.

Before we get up close and personal with this young mysterious artist, let us first be enlightened about Manga Art.

For all you Japanese lovers, Manga are Japanese comic books. It’s art is generally referred as Manga Style If you have seen manga, it has a define look to it, meaning very precisely sketched.  This type of art came to life after the World War II. It has been stressed that manga strongly reflects US culture influences, that was bought to Japan. It’s influence comes from images and themes from U.S. television, film, and cartoons especially Disney.

To me and a lot more people out there, manga style is stunningly portraited.  A manga woman’s figure is precisely sketched leaving out no detail. And there is no doubt that a man gets a better hard-on with manga than in real life!

Aware with Manga, now let’s get into Duval’s world, run along his mind and get to know him personally.

Rashika: How did you start your art journey?

Duval: In grade 5, I saw a guy drawing and thought of giving it a shot. From that day onwards I’ve been drawing!

Rashika: What types of drawings do you do?

Duval: Mostly manga, but Sci-fi is also another mainstream of mine

Rashika: What does art mean to you?

Duval: Other than the obvious ‘lines on paper’, I’d also say it is one of the pinnacles of human evolution, to be able to represent the world as it is in a split second. Iit’s almost as if an artist has the power to stop time. To me, art is the power to everything.

Rashika: What inspires you to draw?
Duval: Existence and my ability to portray my viewpoint of it on paper.

Rashika: Nicely expressed. Who inspires you to draw?
Duval: Three people:

• Eiichiro Oda, the writer of One Piece. His skill at creating a universe is all but epic.
• Kubo Tite, writer of Bleach. The level of detail of the artwork is amazing.
• Dhyresh Mendis is the third. Being my rival and co-writer, he has helped me break limits which I have forced on myself by means of being better than me. And yes I require large amounts of competition if I’m ever to improve.

Rashika: Do you hope to lead your life with art? If so, what type of artist do you want to become?

Duval: I do. Hoping to be a comic artist or an animator, either is fine.

Duval: I am like an open book! There is nothing people don’t know aboutt me!

Hehe! We have got to know him personally and beautiful artwork. As young as 17, he has made up his mind to lead his life with art. He sure does know where he stands.

Ananda College Information and Communication Technology Society (ACICTS) has executed various projects for the benefit of students as well as all other crowds without any age difference. ‘Pulz’ has been the most prominent of them and has become the leading school-based ICT event, which has created a new arena in school-based ICT events.

In continuing its legacy to greater heights the ACICTS has taken steps to organize the latest version of the ‘Pulz’ series which will be a much different version of the previous editions. ‘Pulz 2010’ will not be just another ICT event; it will be the initiative event of joining hands with students representing all parts of the unified country, taking the face of a convention this time.

The main intention of this event will be to provide students an opportunity to interact with ICT and acquire knowledge through experiencing ICT in a different perspective.

Even though ICT has been developed within the schools in Sri Lanka, most of the time ICT is limited only within the school. There is no proper system of sharing, discussing and using ICT with students of other schools and professionals of the field. ACICTS will take the initiative to help students to interact with students of other schools, share and gather knowledge and discuss important matters and get solutions with the use of technology.

Students will also gain an all-round ICT experience through various programmes on cutting edge technologies, interactive activities and from the competitions. There will be intra-school as well as inter-school IT competitions in co-operation with this event. An inter-school quiz will be held at the event, in which the Pulz annual challenge trophy will be inaugurated.

Through all these efforts, ACICTS expects to up-lift the ICT level in the school as well as in others by developing inter-school co-operation and help making ICT to play an important role in the education system of Sri Lanka in the 21st century, to create a better future through ICT.

Shaun Perera, the Vocalist of Magic Box Mix Up stopped by and had a chat with us about his childhood, passion and plans for the future as young and talented artist in the country. Today “Talent Search” reveals part of Shaun Perera’s life.

Whats your full name? Shaun Perera

Age, if you dont mind revealing? 25

Occupation? Audio Engineer/ Musician

How did it all start for you?

Coming from a family surrounded by musicians, it’s safe to say that I have always been intrigued by the whole thing. It was not always my passion till I formed a band with my cousin and a few friends in 2005. Like all my other interests, my interest for music and love for music never faded away. So I decided to keep to this field and here I am, still in it.

Your favorite moment as a singer?

Since I have been performing for few years now, there are many instances I can point out, but one dream of mine has always been to hear the crowd sing back to me and this happened quite a few times within these five years. But the time that it stood out the most was when MBM performed at the BC auditorium when the line-up was, Me, Virentha, Kushal, Ranen and Ruvin, and when the everyone in the balcony and below just sang with us, and whenever I asked them to repeat something they did, this was when we sang Stand by me and Lunu dhehi..hehehe..:)

Who’s your biggest musical influence?

Well I Don’t have one particular band or artist that I idolize, but to name a few; incubus, lifehouse, matchbox 20, john mayor, Jason Mraz, Queen there are many others, too many great singers and bands which makes it hard to choose one.

What was it like working with so many incredibly talented industry members?

It’s been great, it keeps you humble and true as an artist and lets me know that you can learn something new every day, and that I don’t know everything and therefore my head and ego have managed to maintain its size throughout my career.

What type of music do you wish you knew more about?

Well I should be pretty ashamed to say this but, If you ask me what kind of music I am least familiar with it’s the whole Sinhalese music scene. This is because I have been singing and writing in English wince I was around 13 years old. And till this year I didn’t get into the whole Sinhalese music scene, but having cousins like Gayan, Lanthra and Tehan and with their help I am getting into the scene little by little and hope people enjoy what I bring onto the Sri Lankan stage.

What are you currently obsessed about?

Well people who are close to me know that I am a fitness freak, and whether I have recordings all day or even if I don’t get enough sleep I’ll still make time to go to the Gym and work out. I just can’t do without it.

Do you play any instruments?

I can play a bit of guitar, if you actually can call that playing. But ill have you know that I’m starting some piano classes soon, because it’s pretty important to me not only as a musician but also as an engineer to be able to compose music.

What artists would you like to do a duet with?

I want to do a duet with each of my cousins and I have let two of them know already. But I won’t reveal their names as I want to leave you guys with an element of surprise.

An ideal day for you would be

In bed with no work to do, just relaxing with myself watching plenty of movies. I love movies, have a whole collection. And no you can’t borrow any..!

What/who makes you the happiest

You are kind of putting me on the spot here, because there are at least three people who would expect me to say their name. So, instead of saying someone that makes me happy I shall mention something that makes me happy. Well, I Love all my friends and family, and as long as they are all happy around me I tend to feel very happy. Let’s just say I can’t be happy unless they are all happy around me.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t ask something about your personal life for all of our female readers.  Is there anyone special in your life right now?

I honestly don’t think the female readers would care much if I was single or not. I mean look at me, I’m not such a pretty picture to look at J but yes my poor girl friend has to deal with looking at me and be happy with what she’s got.

What would you like your fans to know about you that they don’t already?

Do I have fans? J well, my previous dream was to be a cricketer but all that’s changed now. I used to captain my school senior Cricket team (Elizabeth Moir school)

Do you care about fashion much?

Yes I do. I have a certain type of style I go for and I don’t dress up in anyway other than that. I like my clothes to be from a place like Top shop, well most of my clothes are from there, from shoes to jeans to the t shirt and also boxers.

Your goal in life

My goal is to try and get the Sri Lankan English music scene also into a proper stage. It’s time people stopped being in this little box where they only appreciate what the artists that only the Sinhalese bands or Solo artists do, the bands and artist that perform in English work equally hard and they really do deserve a little more appreciation.

My goals when it comes to my studio is that we expand it soon into a complete production house also, where not only songs can be recorded but we can also to a video for a good affordable price for artists that are interested.

Who do you want to be known as or recognized as?

I want to be known as a musician who would do anything for the love of music and with no materialistic intentions. And one who would like to make the music scene in Sri Lanka grow together amongst all the artists and bands, by trying to eradicate the word ‘competition’ amongst everyone.
